Several Opponauts have brought some things to my attention that I didn’t notice before.....

The rear wheel is like that because without an engine and transmission in the butt it’s got no weight to put it down and the spring plates are maxed out.

The headlights don’t look right because you are just seeing the profile of the headlight bucket and I agree, may be smashed on the driver’s side.

Look for floors,they may be about 6-8" below the bottom of the car and look like dust. Tell us where you don’t find rust :)

Not to mention it looks like it’s been crashed.....

That Torino I posted a while ago looks like a better bet. It seems to be mostly intact...

That Torino is great! I think it might actually be a Fairlane because of the vinyl top? Not certain though. I’ve always liked those cars.

You’d be doing the owner a favor by taking it off his hands, and thus might be able to get a good deal. Even if it was more of a project, I’d take it over the Torino all day.

Still cool though! Probably has a straight 6, you could swap it for a nice 390 or something similar. Nice wheels make these cars look a ton better too.

Their arguments not to buy it sound perfectly valid (as I mentioned before, be brave, don’t be stupid!).

Having said that, going to see it does not cost you anything and you’ll probably learn a lot in the process.

I wonder if the owner would let you take pictures. It could be a good idea.

Who knows, he may have a couple of boxes of NOS parts in this attic – and the engine stashed away in a vat of Castrol-R.

I'd at least checkout the Porsche. If the guy basically gives it away and you can flip it for a grand or more, it may pay for the Torino. The Ford looks like you could drive it while you fix it. The Porsche look like a basket case.

you have to knock like youre the Feds............. there about, in the middle of the door, where all the boards meet in the center, about the middle of the crosses......... and while youre making a big racket,just after you stop knocking, you’re pretty near, but not quite yelling “knock knock, anyone home?” and you do this four or five times. the knocking and yelling. in between sets, you listen REAL careful for movement inside......... if a dog goes crazy, no one is home. if it barks and stops, someone is there...........

just be ready to apologize for being noisy.......... after about four or five sets, you can be SURE no one is home.......

sometimes neighbors answer when i knock...............

by meeting the guy, you know, that HE KNOWS you want to buy the car. no guarantees that he’ll get the note, OR read it.

BUT, IF i did leave a note, i’d

use a GOOD thumbtack, and preferably a bright day-glow colored card(cut up poster board), and write on it with a fairly thick sharpie marker. “would like to buy (description of car here), your name, phone number, with area code” and tack it to the door in a way so it doesnt fall off.........

also, cheap trick, take a piece of masking tape, and put it so that it goes from the door to the door frame, but just long enough so that it connects. put it up high out of sight. that way you can check and see if someone has come through the door..........
